Hangar 9 is proud to present another legend in its lineup of Warbirds, the Corsair 50 ARF. The F4U Corsair, made famous for its ability to out climb, outrun or outfight any enemy in its day, is an exciting addition to the Hangar 9 family. Referred to as “whistling death” by the Japanese in World War II, and the "Sweetheart of Okinawa" by American troops, the inverted gull wing allowed for the huge propeller to clear the deck with its short, stout landing gear. Designed as a carrier-based fighter, it was also the first Naval aircraft to have landing gear retract flush into the wing behind panels for improved aerodynamics, and it was the first fighter to exceed speeds of 400 mph. Its successful reputation and unique flying characteristics have earned the F4U Corsair its place in American military history.

The Saratoga 40 ARF from Hangar 9 is the perfect .40-size airplane for relaxed sport flying. Characterized by an open cockpit and rounded tail surfaces, this airplane’s looks are timeless from nose to tail. Its classic styling is reminiscent of aviation subjects from the 1930s. The Saratoga is also dressed with UltraCote® in a classic scheme. The black and white checkerboard design on the bottom of the wing contrasts the clean, sharp lines on the top of the wing—making it easy for the pilot to distinguish orientation in the sky. Hangar 9’s P-51 Mustang 60 ARF is a remarkably accurate rendition of America’s favorite fighter airplane. This 60-sized almost-ready-to-fly airplane was designed and crafted to be the most realistic sport-scale ARF on the market. It is constructed of lightweight balsa and plywood, and the entire airframe is fully sheeted to maintain the model’s strict scale appearance and strong flight performance. Scale airfoils were used to maintain the exact scale outline of the P-51’s tail surfaces, and the control surfaces feature scale hinge lines as well. Even the location of the tail wheel matches that of the full-scale P-51. The functioning flaps facilitate scale takeoffs and landings while the internally mounted flap and elevator linkages preserve the scale outline. The P-51 Mustang features a plug-in, two-piece wing and plug-in airfoiled stab/elevator sections for easier assembly and disassembly.

For the ultimate, realistic flight experience, the P-51 comes with all-metal mechanical spring-loaded strut assemblies. These retracts are easy to use—no previous retract experience is necessary.
